“Covid19 made this a great time to visit. We planned our trip through All Alaska Tours before the Corona virus hit but decided to go anyway and we were glad we did. The crowds are down since cruise lines aren’t operating and that really helped. Our trip had the following itinerary; Fly to Anchorage; Alaska rail to Denali; Tour Denali; Train to Fairbanks; Rental car to Valdez; Return to Anchorage to fly home. The trip got off to a bad start thanks to American Airlines. Our flight out was canceled due to maintenance delays and we lost a day. Thankfully one call to Alaska tours and they made all the arraignments for a shortened trip. We decided to give up one night in Fairbanks since everything else seemed more important. If I had booked this myself I would have been on the phone for hours. Every hotel we stayed at was excellent and the Sheraton in Anchorage is the only one I would have known anything about without Alaska Tours. The train was wonderful but you definitely want to upgrade to gold star service. That puts you in the viewing car with an open platform (pictures!) and meals. Check train availability because low ridership may affect the schedule. We booked a boat tour on our own out of Valdez on the LuLu Bell which was excellent. You get very close to the Columbia glacier and see lots of wildlife and learn a lot about the are from Captain Fred.”
